THE LENDING LIBRARY provides educational materials, books, videos, curriculum kits, and computers that families can borrow and return when they are done. The long term goal would be to expand the library to include more materials and technological items and to gift those items to families in the group that need them.
THE GRADUATION/AWARDS CEREMONY is where we celebrate the student achievements the members have had throughout the year. Parents are able to present awards at that time and Black Homeschoolers CFL recognizes each child with a certificate and award. Families join together with food and fellowship and have a table available to show their family accomplishments for the year.
GUESTS/CLASSES/TRIPS. With this program, we pinpoint what career fields the children in our membership are interested in and we center our Guest Speakers, field trips and classes around those things and introduce them to much more. This program provides great opportunities for learning and gives incentive and encouragement to the children to help them in their educational quest.
Long Term Success would be watching the children form an interest in a field of study and watch them progress in that endeavor.
The Short Term Success is seeing that excitement in their faces as they learn new things!
Here are some examples of just what we’ve accomplished as a group! The children have had tours at a host of federal, state, and local facilities, and experienced their out of state learning trips to Atlanta, Washington, D.C, and a group cruise to The Bahamas. They have been introduced to Aviation, Entomology, Veterinary Medicine, Marine Science, Film, Music, Gaming Technology, Meterology, had Robotics classes, cooking, sewing, Theatre Arts, Public Speaking, Book writing and Publishing, Leadership classes, Archery, Outdoor Survival Classes, Photography classes, and so much more. We also have an annual Science & Geography Fair and competed and won Volusia Mall's 2019 Duel of the Schools with our student projects. We have had a Fashion and Talent Show where the youth wore the clothing that they made for themselves and their models, and displayed their talents.
COMMUNITY SERVICE. The purpose of this program is to teach our children how to give back to their communities in service to others. We have several projects that we participate in annually. Light the Night for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Lions Club Recycle for Sight, having a community Food Drive and donating to a local food pantry, wrapping gifts for the elderly at a community nursing home and clothing drive at our Meet and Greet. The Long Term Success of this program is having the children be active proponents of service to their communities and our world.
Things we’ve done this year and in year’s past- 100+ gifts wrapped for the elderly at the nursing home, many that don't have families. Our wrapped gifts to them during the Christmas holidays has put a smile on their faces. Raising over $1,000 for the Light the Night Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to benefit those battling the horrible disease of cancer. Picking up trash at local parks and our beaches in our communities. Collecting food and donating to a local food pantry. Also helping on the Food Collection trucks, packing the bags that will be distributed to needy families. Feeding the homeless. Making gifting socks filled with toiletries and items that benefit the homeless and distributing them to the homeless. Collecting sunglasses and prescription eyeglasses for the Lions Club's Recycle for Sight Program which helps children and adults that are sight impaired and can't afford glasses. Baking cookies and made cards and distributed them to the Fire Department, the Sheriff’s office, the Health Department, and the Veteran’s Clinic & Hospital.
