                                   FAQ's

WHO ARE WE?

We are Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida, Inc., a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization based in Volusia County,  but we are a support group for black homeschooling parents in the Central Florida area and beyond.

WHY BLACK?

More often than not, we are the only black family in homeschooling groups and on trips. Having this group gives us more numbers as we join in on other homeschooling activities. Plus, our children realize that not only white families homeschool and it gives them a face to identify with.

DO WE HAVE INTERACTION WITH WHITE HOMESCHOOLING FAMILIES OR OTHER ETHNICITIES?

Of course! The homeschooling community is huge, and we are all here to help one another, share information, and we attend some events together.

DO WE HAVE SOME EVENTS THAT ARE SPECIFIC TO BEING BLACK?

Yes. We try to partner with black businesses and professionals so that our children get exposed to a variety of disciplines.

WILL EVERYTHING WE DO BE BLACK BASED?

The world is our classroom. We don’t limit ourselves into thinking there is black and white only. We open our minds to all that was created and realize the universe is ours and our learning goes beyond limitations.

DO WE HAVE CLASSES LIKE PUBLIC SCHOOL OR TEACH CLASSES?

No. We are not a co-op. There are groups you can join if that is what you desire. There are so many different schools of thought when it comes to beliefs, etc., that we keep the teaching up to the parents. We do, however, have educational programming throughout the year that enhances learning that parents are already doing on their own. We partner with the 4-H program and join together on many events, along with other homeschooling groups. Parents have to research, study, and figure out what curriculum or ways they want to teach their own child specific to their child and family needs. Group members offer what has worked for them, but we in no way tell you what to do. You will have to figure out what works best for you and your family. We are inclusive and are open to suggestions on trips, classes, or guests.

WHERE ARE WE LOCATED?

Our home base is in Volusia County. If travel is a major factor for you, virtual communication is an option, but realize that this is where we meet.

HOW CAN I BECOME A MEMBER?
